GODALMING CHORAL SOCIETY
The home of choral singing in Godalming
We are a medium sized local choir who sing to a high standard. We employ a professional orchestra (Orchestra Eroica) to accompany most concerts and engage professional soloists where applicable. Our rehearsals are hard work but fun, and there are plenty of opportunities for socialising as well as singing ...
We are always happy to welcome new members, so if you'd like to join, or give us a try-out, please get in touch.
Elijah
The Godalming Choral Society, under their talented new conductor George de Voil, is performing Mendelssohn’s choral masterpiece Elijah with professional orchestra and soloists in the beautiful Memorial Chapel at Charterhouse School on Sunday 30th March 2025. Elijah was one of Mendelssohn’s last compositions, but still full of youthful vigour and music magnificently dramatizing the life of the prophet. He died the following year aged only 38. First performed in 1846 and well-loved in its time, its popularity declined in the last century as it was thought over dramatic. Recently revived, it is again rated a huge success. Mendelssohn’s most monumental oratorio brings the bible story to life with operatic gusto. Come and be swept away!
George is a fantastic young conductor, recently heard on BBC Radio3’s choral evensong.
